This class is designed to complement the disciplines of classical
technique with a strong modern technique, providing dancers with
necessary good form, flexibility, and the agility and strength necessary
to exe-cute today’s contemporary work. The class incorporates the
princi-ples of a classical barre’ with Germaine’s contemporary dance
tech-nique; it emphasizes correct physical alignment, strong and
liquid control of the plie’, fluid port d’ bras and gestural movements,
and also concentrates on mastering control of complex phrases. Nimble
weight transference and changes of direction, multiple dynamics
and complex rhythms, and effective use of both subtle and large
move-ments in and through space are all part of this class process.
Phrases taught may come from Germaine’s extensive choreo-graphic
repertory or from new work currently being developed for performance.
In addition to the technical aspects, Ms. Germaine’s rich performing,
choreographic, and directorial background gives the class an added
mentor’s atmosphere; Ms. Germaine shares tips, anecdotes, and examples
within the structure of the class providing multiple layers that
enrich the experience. |

Give a Special Gift this Holiday Season:
A TOUR TO CROATIA!
If you would like to give a unique and wonderful gift this holiday
season, consider giving your loved ones (AND YOURSELF!) a tour of
CROATIA that includes dance, music and song at many times and in
many locations! Touring with Pam Kelley and Melissa Obenauf, who
are Co-Founders of ŽIVILI Dance Company as well as owners of “Heart
of Croatia Gifts,” travelers will have the opportunity to experience
the very best in cultural traditions that Croatia has to offer!
The tour will begin in Zagreb and its surroundings, where we will
hear the sounds of tamburitza players while dining; there will also
be opportunities to attend dance classes offered by Croatia's leading
dance ethnologists, and private receptions at "LADO,"
Croatia's premier state folk dance company! While in the capital
city of Zagreb, we will explore the Old Town on foot, led by the
city's most experienced tour guide. Come with us to see the beautiful
craftsmens’ town of Samobor, where we offer a personalized tour
to watch crystal engravers at work at the renowned Samobor Crystal
company. Next, travel to see the beautiful forests and mountains
of Gorski Kotar, and then its onward to the picturesque walled town
of Krk, on the Adriatic's largest island, KRK. Plant yourself at
this lovely hotel with incredible views of the Adriatic from private
balconies, and then travel in beautiful air-conditioned busses to
take day-trips to see the world's newest "Tuscany," ISTRIA…to
Rovinj to watch the sunset over the glorious Adriatic sea, to Pula
to stand in the center of one of the best-preserved amphitheatres
in all of Europe, and throughout the lovely interior and coastal
areas. How about a relaxing boat trip for swimming and exploring
unoccupied islands in the Adriatic? Does a fish dinner in a restaurant/konoba
in the ancient fortressed-town of RAB sound like a good idea? And,
we invite you to hear the most romantic music that the coastal areas
offer, "KLAPA singing," while sitting alongside the more
(sea) with thousands of stars twinkling overhead! Let's do some
wine-tasting in the village of VRBNIK where the famous ŽLAHTINA
grape is cultivated and grown! We simply cannot miss Plitvice Lakes,
either, which is listed on the World Heritage Sites as one of the
Natural Wonders of the World. A visit to the stunning Kvarner Island
of CRES is planned, where we will visit ancient towns and eat the
most sumptuous lamb dinner ever! One of the most special attributes
of this trip is that our travelers only unpack twice, once in Zagreb,
and again in Krk. Although we offer many excursions, we will always
bring you back "home" to the gracious hotels we have chosen
for you. Yet another special attribute of our tours is that after
a deposit is made, the remainder of the cost is divided into 3 equal
installment payments, paid approximately one month apart. Another
special characteristic of our tours is that we take you to places
that are as yet "undiscovered," but by the same token,
are among the most beautiful locations in all of Croatia. This tour
offers two dance workshops, lectures with dance ethnologists and
folklorists, presentations by some of the most esteemed dance companies
in Croatia, singing workshops and performances, but best of all,
the tour incorporates opportunities to dance and sing wherever we
go! If you would like to experience what we feel are the most special
"flavors" of Croatia, then this trip, scheduled for June
14-28, 2012, is for YOU, your family, your friends! For more information
or to sign up for this tour package, contact Melissa Pintar Obenauf
at mobenauf@windstream.net or call 740.587.7715. And, here is some
feedback from our 2011 tour participants... |
