Denison University, Department of Dance - Resident Musician

Beginning Spring Semester 2012, January 15th

The Resident Musician is responsible for all music and sound needs for the Department
of Dance including accompaniment for all dance classes, sound engineering, music
composition, performance and administration.
Required: high school diploma or equivalent.
Expectations are:
• Experience as dance accompanist with African rhythms and Modern/Postmodern
improvisation.
• Dance music composition skills.

The Department of Communication, Media, and Theatre, Muskingum University

DANCECleveland Marketing Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director and/or Marketing Director

Status: Part Time- 20 hours per week. This is a temporary position, funded through March 2012 with the potential of being extended into a permanent position. Exempt. Hours are 11:00am – 3:00pm., M-F. Marketing Coordinator will also need to be present during performances 5-11 times per year.

Description: DANCECleveland has an immediate opening for a creative and experienced individual to work with the Marketing Director and Executive Director on marketing and audience development activities.

The Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating DANCECleveland’s marketing efforts for 5-7 performances each season, subscription campaigns and public relations efforts. DANCECleveland’s marketing efforts are focused on building audiences for dance, communicating about DANCECleveland and building brand awareness.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Marketing: Work with Marketing Director to help create performance marketing plans and timetables and coordinate plans with internal staff and external designers and partners. Work with our marketing and PR consultants and graphic designers to manage all print production (postcards, posters, brochures, etc.), press releases, radio copy, reports and messaging. Work with Marketing Director to coordinate the printing and distribution of printed materials. Work collaboratively with other staff on program specific marketing needs and initiatives including development and group sales efforts.

Administrative: Help with office duties including phone answering, subscription ordering, ticketing and various other shared office duties.

This position is deadline driven so the ebb and flow of work will vary throughout the year with the heaviest periods being in the weeks leading up to performances (5-7 times per year) and prior to the launch of our season (April).

Qualifications: The desired candidate will be a creative, results-oriented individual, who is highly organized and works well with people. Written and oral communication skills are especially important, as is the ability to proficiently use technology resources and to multi-task. This position will require a car.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications or Related Field and have a minimum of two years of experience in marketing or public relations field. Experience with and/or knowledge of dance is preferable.

The Department of Dance at The Ohio State University provides
intersecting investigations in the field of dance, with courses in dance technique, somatics, choreography,
repertory, history, production, Labanotation and Laban studies, pedagogy, dance related technologies,

Part-time/hourly position
The School of Dancing Wheels is a multi-arts school and outreach program that serves students of all ages, origins, physical, sensory and intellectual abilities. Based in mid town Cleveland, the purpose of the school is to provide students who may not otherwise have the same opportunities for inclusion into arts programming a place to enjoy fully accessible and inclusive arts experiences.
A qualified candidate must have experience in dance and education. It is preferable that the candidate have additional experience/education in special education or working with mix ability populations. Other skill sets that are important to achieve a high level of success in this position are as follows: a strong desire to teach, a kind and understanding spirit, good communication skills, strong organizational skills, versatile in both arts and administration, inventive and creative in terms of programming, understands school curriculum programming, coveys information in a clear and concise manner in writing and verbally, marketing knowledge and ability
Onsite School Activities
• Create class schedules and secure teachers for both on site and off site classes
• Market for the school enrollment
• Keep up to date with curriculum standards and benchmarks
• Train/secure teachers for the school with an option to teach for the school those classes that are deemed appropriate *

• Give directions and any additional information to teachers who teach Dancing Wheels classes off site

• Organize mailing lists and marketing approaches to reach all former participants and initiate new participants
Outreach/Arts Partnership Activities
• Secure outside programming/classes and residency programs such as ASIA, Cleveland Sight Center, etc.
• Create outreach programs from current repertory that coincides with curriculum standards
• Set up meetings with school teachers to discuss residencies
• Coordinate all existing residency programs (ie: secure teachers, confirm dates, maintain binders with details and choreographic notes)
• Keep residency mailing list/contacts up to date
• Orchestrate and coordinate the selling of student matinees for story ballets and appropriate mainstages (this requires additional clerical support for phone calls and faxes)
Other Related activities

• Attend meetings that pertain to educational programming including Young Audiences Of North East Ohio, Cuyahoga Arts Education Committee meetings
• Participate in school and disability related fairs such as Fair on The Square to promote the school and its programming to local teachers*
• Record and secure pictures/video of classes and residencies for grant purposes

The Dancing Classrooms program is a ten week – twenty session social development program teaching ballroom dance to children during their school day. Dancing Classrooms is not about teaching ballroom dancing. The dance is a tool for getting the children to break down social barriers, learn about honor and respect, treat others carefully, improve self-confidence, communicate and cooperate, and accept others even if they are different. Our mission is to build social awareness, confidence and self-esteem in children through the practice of social dance.

We are currently seeking Teaching Artists who have:

A passion for dance and creative expression that is easily communicated to, and contagious among, children
Self confidence in his/her dance and artistic abilities

ClancyWorks Dance Company is looking for teaching artists for their arts in education programs throughout Baltimore County, Montgomery County, and Fairfax County. Ideal candidates have experience teaching dance K-12 in various dance styles including hip hop, step, jazz, modern, and creative movement. ClancyWorks arts in education classes focus on the history, vocabulary, technique, and cultural context behind each form of dance taught. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses in movement for actors, modern dance, dance history, and choreography, as well as a selection of courses from among the following: traditional African dance, hip hop, jazz, dance for the camera, stage combat, mask work, and introductory-level acting and directing. The person in this position is also responsible for directing, coaching, and choreographing in the department’s main-stage production season. Candidates with interdisciplinary and cross-cultural interests and perspectives are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications: At least an M.F.A. or professional equivalency as well as evidence of strong teaching ability, a record of successful creative endeavors, and potential for research activities. Qualifications:
The Department of Dance is seeking a dancer/teacher with extensive professional performance,
choreographic and teaching experience. Qualified candidates should have a strong background
in ballet and modern with an understanding of jazz and notable experience in teaching Dance

Duties:

technique classes, choreograph for the Webster University Dance Ensemble and, where

considered an asset: Pedagogy, Composition, Dance History, Repertory, Contemporary/Jazz,
Technology for Dance and Somatics. Candidate will be advising dance students and assisting
with administration and recruitment as necessary.

School:
The Department of Dance has approximately 36 majors and offers both the BFA and BA in
Dance, as well as two Dance Minors. The Dance Program participates regularly in the
American College Dance Festival. There are two theatres, two primary studios, two full time
faculty, approximately 10 adjunct faculty, and a full time music director. A dance medicine
doctor is also in residence. The program offers all levels of Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap and
Choreography, with the focus of graduating dancers who are well versed in all techniques and
are capable teachers/choreographers. Students emphasize either ballet or modern in their
major, yet graduate as versatile contemporary dancers.

Post-doc in Dance Studies

A consortium of three research universities-Brown, Northwestern, and Stanford-seeks to appoint MELLON POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS IN DANCE STUDIES for the academic year 2012-13. Fellows will be associated with humanities centers on each campus and will teach two undergraduate courses. In addition, fellows will attend intensive week-long seminars, held the summer before and after the fellowship year, devoted to strategies for interdisciplinary research and teaching. We seek a dynamic educator who will strengthen our efforts in our Healthy Active Lifestyles initiative. Dance has a rich tradition at the University of Idaho. As the only four year dance major at a public institution in Idaho, the dance program has experienced significant growth in recent years. Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Contemporary Dance

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in all levels of modern dance technique, improvisation, dance composition
and a course in somatic practice. Faculty member will also be expected to teach
dance academic courses (e.g., dance history, anatomy/kinesiology for dance, etc),
create works on student dancers for faculty concerts, serve as artistic director for
student or faculty concerts, advise majors and supervise graduate student research,
seek funded research opportunities. Other teaching opportunities may include
developing and teaching on-line courses and other courses related to research
interests and areas of expertise. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the
department, school and university through committee service and faculty
shared-governance responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to
maintain personal scholarship and professional contacts with local, state, and
national associations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum: Candidate must have an MFA in Dance, a minimum of three
years university-level teaching experience; significant performing/choreographing
experience; and certification in a Somatic discipline (e.g. Iyengar Yoga, Alexander
Technique, Feldenkrais, Body-Mind Centering, etc).

Preferred: Doctorate in Dance or related field (in addition to required MFA);
and/or experience in dance and technology; and/or substantial experience in African
and/or African Diasporic forms.

Qualifications:

The Department of Dance is seeking a dancer/teacher with extensive professional performance, choreographic and teaching experience. Qualified candidates should have a strong background in ballet and modern with an understanding of jazz and notable experience in teaching Dance Composition. It is preferred that the candidate has an MFA degree in dance. Exceptional candidates could substitute performance experience and will be evaluated on an individual basis. Preference will be given to candidates who provide interdisciplinary and/or international education interests.

Duties:

It is anticipated the candidate will have the ability to teach all levels of ballet and modern technique classes, choreograph for the Webster University Dance Ensemble and, where appropriate, for the Conservatory of Theatre Arts. Knowledge in any of the following fields is considered an asset: Pedagogy, Composition, Dance History, Repertory, Contemporary/Jazz, Technology for Dance and Somatics. Candidate will be advising dance students and assisting with administration and recruitment as necessary.

School:

The Department of Dance has approximately 36 majors and offers both the BFA and BA in Dance, as well as two Dance Minors. The Dance Program participates regularly in the American College Dance Festival. There are two theatres, two primary studios, two full time faculty, approximately 10 adjunct faculty, and a full time music director. A dance medicine doctor is also in residence. The program offers all levels of Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap and Choreography, with the focus of graduating dancers who are well versed in all techniques and are capable teachers/choreographers. Students emphasize either ballet or modern in their major, yet graduate as versatile contemporary dancers.

Job title: Tenure track, Assistant Professor

The Department of Dance at the University of Kansas seeks an Assistant Professor (Tenure track) faculty position focusing on dance technique, choreography and dance studies, expected to begin as early as August 18, 2012, to contribute to the development of our integrated curriculum in ballet, modern, jazz and world dance forms.

Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester, such as beginning modern dance technique, lower-level dance history, beginning jazz dance, dance improvisation, or a world dance form. Faculty are expected to perform significant research in the form of choreography or scholarly activity, and service to the department, university and the field.

Minimum qualifications: Candidates for the position must have teaching experience at the college/university level. In addition, the candidate must have choreographic experience at the professional or college/university level and/or a record of scholarly activity in the form of conference paper presentations and peer reviewed-journal or book publications. The Department of Dance at the University of Kansas offers training in the core areas of ballet, jazz and concert modern dance. Our program also provides intensive technical training and cultural studies opportunities for majors and non-majors in classical East Indian dance forms like bharata natyam, African dance and flamenco dance of Southern Spain, including study abroad opportunities. These methodologies inform not only the technical training of students, majors and non-majors, but also courses that fulfill principal humanities requirements, like DANC 330: Approaches to World Dance, or a non-western culture requirement (DANC 440: Introduction to Indian Classical Dance) and contribute to the Global Awareness Program certification (DANC 490: Introduction to Flamenco Dance). The Department of Dance enrolls more than 200 students in courses each semester.

Graduates in the B.A. and B.F.A. programs in Dance go on to careers in professional performance and dance education, but they also pursue graduate study in medicine, law, dance therapy, education and other professional fields. During the past five years, faculty in the Department of Dance have engaged in interdisciplinary research with scholars in Music Performance, Music Therapy, Theatre, American Studies and Religious Studies.
